Both India and Pakistan
You must have heard of many
cricketers who played cricket for two countries. Whose names are Iyog Morgan,
Dirk Nannes etc. But did you know that many Pakistan team members played on
behalf of the Indian team? If you are shocked, then your shocking is also reasonable.
But let us tell you that this was before independence when India and Pakistan
used to be a country. After independence, India and Pakistan were divided into
two countries, and in this way the Pakistan cricket team also became a separate
team. This new Pakistan team captain, Abdul Hafiz Karadar, who had already
played Test matches from the Indian cricket team. Karadar started his
international career in the year 1946 when he played on the grounds of Lord's
against England on behalf of the Indian team. Hafeez scored 43 runs in the
first innings and zero runs in the second innings. Pakistan cricket's first
captain, Hafeez Karadar, was a good educated cricketer. He did graduation from
Oxford University of England.
Pakistan got Test status in 1952
and Hafeez took over the reins of the Pakistan team from 1952 to 1958. At the
time when Hafeez took over the reins of the Pakistan Cricket Board, Mali's
condition was very bad. Even the players of the team did not even have a method
of cricket kit. They used to meet the needs of their kit with their friends and
fans. Even his shoes were lied to his friends. Despite all this, Hafeez took
over the responsibility of his captaincy. Pakistan played 23 matches in the
captaincy of Hafeez, winning 8. This was a huge achievement for the team whose
players were in poverty.
Hafeez's biggest weapon was stubborn
opener Hanif Mohammad and exceptional swing bowler Faizal Mehmood. With the
help of these tactics, Pakistan made the first tour of the Caribbean country
West Indies. Pakistan was batting on a different cricket pitch for the first
time, but despite this, the Pakistan team gave a tough fight to the Caribbean
team.
Eventually Pakistan series lost
3-1. But in the captaincy of Hafeez, Pakistan won a Test match against each
Test playing nation, which was a great achievement for the Pakistan team that
was emerging in the world stage at that time. However, he did not face South
Africa because South Africa did not play cricket against the non-white country
at that time. After the West Indies tour, Hafeez decided to retire from Test
cricket at the age of 33.
